Kankakee City April 14 1865
Hon Richard Yates
Dear Governor
As the war is about over I think there will be little done in that line and I have received no papers of appointment yet and probably will not on account that the war is in fact closed. I have thought I would like an appointment in Nebraska so if a vacancy should occur in the judiciary or else where if you will give it your attention you will confer a favor on your friend
C.A. Lake
C A Lake Kankakee Ills wants appointment in Nebraska
Wrote Aug 25th that I knew of no opening, but when I saw a chance for him I would seize influence. Will gladly assist him when I can do so.
Lake's & Peters' commission came May 2, 1865
Wrote Hon C.A. Lake that I have not forgotten his letter and that if I can see opening for him in Nebraska or elsewhere will gladly seize upon it. I thought I was doing something for you when I got the place of Q.M. but it did not last. I wrote to have you retained. What has come of it.
