CHIEF COINER'S DEPARTMENT.
Philadelphia May 3rd 1865
Hon Richard Yates
Sir,
I see by the papers that our Government is about opening the different ports along the coast for the resumption of trade and for the purpose of preventing articles contraband of war from entering these various locations. Treasury Agents are to be appointed, to attend to that business, etc. If it would not be asking too much from you I would like to occupy such a position "there is money in it" and I am desirous to make enough
of commodity to make and keep me comfortable. Will you do me the great personal favor, to write me and let me have your views on this subject and as time is a great object attend to it at your earliest convenience. If this position can be procured for me you will place me under the deepest obligation.
I sent your medal by mail and had it registered. Will you be kind enough to acknowledge the receipt of it.
I am Sir
Very Respectfully
Your Obdt Servt
