Gabsburg June 12th 1865 Hon. R. Yates Sir,
I take the liberty of [illegible] you for the purpose of soliciting your aid in reference to my son. He was recommended for an appointment as Bevet[?] Major by Brot Bicy Gen. T. C. Smith (Col. 102th Regt. Ill. Vol.) for Meritorious Service rendered during the late War -- The Gen. tells me that my son proved himself valiant and worthy of such an honor. He served during the war in Co. Cl.[illegible] of the NOP[illegible] and ws its capetorie[illegible] during all the active campaigns and was present at all of the battles in which they participated and his senior officers all speak well of him. And if you can aid in giving affect to the [illegible] in his behalf you will [illegible] a favor, which I should be happy at any time to reciprocate. I am, Sir, yours very respectfully,
