Willis Bledsoe
Ans; I could not
call him to
mind.
Springfield Ill July 19th 65
Sir
I write to you to ask
your assistance and advise in a
case now pending against me here.
I have been in the employ of the
Government for over a year. You may
remember my reports made to Col
Sanderson under the name of Tim
Jones which was assumed. I can
not proceed with my trial now with
out in a great measure, betraying the
trust of secrecy reposed in me by the
Government or suffering unjustly the
penalties of a combination against
me. I wish if it is possible to see
you, immediately, if this is not possible
will you please let me know it
by telegram to the care of the Sheriff
I should have called on you in
person but am deprived of doing
so by being held in prison
My apology for troubling you
is the urgency of the case, together
with the fact that you have a
personal knowledge of my connection
with the Government as before alluded
to, and which has involved me in
this trouble. Parties who have
in former times befriended me are
unwilling now to do anything in
my behalf owing to my participation
in the matters alluded to.
These are matters that I should
mention to you but do not deem
it prudent to committ them to
writing, hoping that you may
grant my request I remain
