Jacksonville July 22nd 1865
Hon. Richard Yates,
Dear Sir
Your favour of the 18th Inst. with the discharge papers of A. J. DeHass inclosed, also a few lines from Edwd M. Stanton informing you of the fact, are all duly receaved.
I am happy to be able to inform you that Mr. DeHass is out of the survace, he left here two weeks ago to day for his home in Prairie City, expect him back here again next week, to make Jacksonville his home, here after.
He feeles under a thousand obligations to you , for geting him discharged, and I hope the day is not far distent when him, and your humble writer, will have the pleasure of favouring you with our votes, and influence, for the highest office in the gift of the American People,
as we surely shall do should that opportunity ever occur. If a "mud sill" is alowed to speak his sentiments, let me add that I indorse every word of your Elgin 4th of July oration, I am the strongest kind of Nigraw Sufrage man.
Beleave me to be your friend untill death.
A. Benedict
