My Dear Sir
My brother L. P. Holden has
just returned from the War- is mustered
out of the Service, has done of his visiting
and now wants to go to work,-
His application is now before Peter Page
Asseser of Internal Revenue for this District
In one of the Sub Districts- his application
is made by our best men and leading
Citizenry headed by Charles Randolph Pres.
Bk of [Isada?]" then our Mayor & C of C.
But withal we lack your aid and as
you helped him once May he not ask it
again. If you can consistantly sign the
Enclosed draft of a letter or something similar
I shall feel doubly obliged to you. You
no doubt recollect him. If in Springfield
look at [Papers?] in Box of 20th Regt Ill Vol
Testimonials in his behalf signed by the
late Genl Wallace [Ramsom?] and many
other noble men of the famous old 11th & 20th
Regiments he belonged to Co. F 20th Ill
until transferred by you in July 1862 to
the 88th We have hopes of securing the position
sought by him but as there are very many
applicants for the same position I have thought
best to address you on the subject & will be
as ever thankful for any [fan?] in this dire-
ction. Hoping to be able some day
to do my little [??ite] in appreciation of
your past Services to this our Noble State
and her noble Sons in the Army of the
Union whilst you were her Governor
