Springfield, August 18th 1865. Gov Yates Dear Sir I expect to go to Europe with my children, and as my husband cannot accompany me, I feel that it is very important that I should be provided with suitable letters of introduction and I take the liberty of asking you for a letter to Gov. Wright, our Minister to Berlin, or for any other letters which you could give me. I know that any letter from you would be of great service to me. Please present my kindest regards to Mrs. Yates and Miss [illegible], of whom I retain many pleasant recollections. We expect to leave here Monday evening but if you would be so kind as to address to Washington in care of my husband, G. S. Thompson, I should get the letter, without delay. I am very sorry to trouble you in this matter, for I know that you must have many demands upon your time, and shall feel very grateful to you for this favor. Very Respectfully, S.B. Thompson
