Description

A. Vernon Jannotta receives the Navy Cross during a ceremony held at the Great Lakes Naval Training Station, Chicago. Jannotta received the Navy Cross for picking up the survivrs and saving the fuel and munitions when the Orestes Navy tanker was bombed in the Philippines during World War II. The Navy Cross is awarded to United States Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard servicemen and servicewomen who display bravery and heroism in combat.
