At a quarterly meeting of the town council of the borough of Leominster, in the county of Hereford, held on the 11th day of May, 1865, it was moved by Mr. Alderman James, and seconded by Mr. Rudge, and carried unanimously—
That this council, feeling deep indignation at the cowardly and brutal assassination of the American President, Abraham Lincoln, and the attempt on the life of Mr. Seward, are desirous of expressing their sympathy with Mrs. Lincoln and the American citizens at the great loss they have sustained, and the heavy affliction with which they have been visited.
That a copy of this resolution be duly signed and sealed by the mayor, and transmitted by the town clerk to the American minister of the United States in this country.
[seal.]
JOHN JACKSON,
Mayor.
