Stewarton, Ayrshire, N. B., May 6, 1865.
1. Resolved, That the inhabitants of Stewarton, in public meeting assembled, have heard with grief of the assassination of President Lincoln, and do hereby express their unmitigated horror of the crime which has so suddenly deprived the United States of America of an upright and honored ruler.
2. We embrace this opportunity of assuring the citizens of the United States of our deep and earnest sympathy with them under this grievous dispensation.
3. We also sympathize most deeply with Mrs. Lincoln and the family of the late President, and earnestly pray that they may be sustained under the terrible affliction which has befallen them, and that their personal loss may, in the providence of God, become a national gain.
A. POLLOCK,
