Resolutions passed at a public meeting of the inhabitants of the town and borough of Stroud, held at the Subscription Rooms, Stroud, on Friday evening, the 5th of May, 1865.

First resolution.—That this meeting desires to record the sentiments of grief and horror with which it regards the assassination of President Lincoln and the attack upon Mr. Seward; to offer its sincere condolence with Mrs. Lincoln and her family, and to express its deep sympathy with the American people in their great calamity.

Second resolution.—That this meeting hopes the government of the United States will ever be animated by the spirit of moderation and conciliation which characterized the late President, and that the deplorable struggle in which the people have been so long engaged may be brought to an early conclusion, and result in the freedom and happiness of all the American people.

Third resolution.—That the chairman be requested to forward the foregoing resolutions to the Hon. Mr. Adams, the American minister in England, as the expression of the feelings of the inhabitants of this town and borough in public meeting assembled.
