Hon R. Yates,
Dear Sir,
My young friend, George B. Miller has patriotically left a lovely bride, and enlisted as a private in Capt. Jenks' company. He is a gentleman of excellent character, exemplary habits, and thorough business capacity. And all his many friends here are exceedingly anxious for him to have some good appointment. Cant you provide him with the office of Quartermaster, or some other suitable place. I can assure you from a very intimate acquaintance, that such appointment could not be more worthily bestowed. And the favor will be most thankfully acknowledged by a host of friends as well as by your friend & Obt ser
Cyrus Edwards
Although not personally acquainted with Mr. Miller, I take pleasure on the strength of Mr. Edwards recommendation & what I have from others, in endorsing him as a worthy man I sincerely hope you may be obg to give him an appointment.
