We, the mayor, aldermen, and burgesses of the ancient borough of Thetford, in council assembled, having received with great sorrow the intelligence of the assassination of President Lincoln, desire to express our utter abhorrence at the detestable crime, and beg to offer to the American nation our sincere condolence and sympathy upon the loss it has sustained.
Given under our common corporate seal, this 22d day of May, 1865.
