State of Illinois
Executive Department.
Springfield Oct. 1 1861
His Excellency
Abraham Lincoln
President US
Sir
I take great pleasure in suggesting to your excellency that the appointment of Judge Isaac G Wilson of Kane County, now Colonel of the 52d Illinois Regt of Infantry, to a Brigadier Generalship, would be eminently satisfactory to the people of Illinois, and in the highest degree gratifying to myself.
The high position occupied by Judge Wilson, his integrity
force of character and attainments render him well qualified to fill such a post with great credit to himself and service to the Government, and I know of no Illinoian whose appointment to this position would be more generally satisfactory.
Hoping that you will grant a favorable consideration to this subject
I have the honor to be
Your obedient servant
