Quincy Ill. Oct 1/61
Hon. R. Yates
Dr. Sir:
My Co - the "Independent" Rangers of Moline Ill - were among those taken prisoners & released at Lexington. - On arriving here by order of Gen Prentiss they scattered to their homes in the Counties of Richland Henry & Mercer. - I wish to get them together again so to be mustered out of service & while waiting the action of government would [blot] to have them go into the Camp which you have recently established near Rock Island. - The acting Commandant, Col McChesny, informs me that it will be neccessary to have your order for that purpose - If consistent I wish you would send me such an order at (over)
to Moline & also one for their subsistence [to?] the Quarter Master - I hope to get the letter for the Quarter Master here but have not yet seen him.
The Co. deserve & should have the care of government. Trusting that this request may be granted I am
Truly Yours
