Governor,
I received a telegraph dispatch from you early in this week dated Springfield Saturday (28th) as follows
"I will meet you either in New York or Phila. & will telegraph you tomorrow, I leave tomorrow night."
Since the receipt of this, I have heard nothing from you & think probably you have changed your mind, but I take the liberty of addressing this to you at Washington
in case you may have gone there without coming to New York and as I leave for Chicago tonight.
When in Washington recently I made an application to the President in behalf of my only remaining son "Harry" for an appointment at "West Point." Harry will be 16 in July next, and I would thank you Governor to speak a word to the President in behalf of my son.
I am Governor
