Chicago Sept 7th 1863.
My Dear Govr.
Golden opportunities for me. One passing every week and not improved.
Within the past month, the Governorship & a Judgeship in Arizonia have been vacant and filled. The Chief Justiceship of Colorado, the same.
One of these, possibly, I might have obtained if we had been at Washington, or if we had seen Lincoln in advance & made arrangements for the next vacancy.
Can you possibly go to Washington this month? I am informed that the Chief Justiceship of Colorado will soon be vacant. This appointment would suit me, and I am satisfied that you could obtain it for me if personal application is made in time.
What do you hear from Judge Kellogg? Does he expect soon to resign?
Please let me hear from you at your earliest convenience & oblige
Very truly yours,
E. P. Ferry
