His Excellency

Richard Yates

Gov of Ills.

My Dear Sir,

I am happy to inform you that through your instrumentality - and that of other friends I have been able to obtain a revocation of the order dismissing me from the service of the U S.

Col Joseph Holt, J. A. G. prepared a most excellent vindication for me in his report. A report combining the whole testimony in my case - and commenting upon it in such terms of Praise that it aught to have placed me in command of the reg of the Potomac. Let me again thank

you for your good letter in my behalf. It is the Proudest moment of my life. A Mountain has been lifted from off my Heart. It beats the pulsations of patriotism & Love for my friends who have helped me out of this trouble. that will never cease until I have helped to save the Country and then served my Dear friends in some way to pay them for their Kindness.

Adieu. God Bless You

Governor,

I am proud that I am your friend
