Dear Sir:

Private Clifford of 13th Regt Ills. Vols now confined at Benton Barracks Hospital has once been furloughed and returned to Hospl. only slightly (if any) improved He has been a faithful soldier and his family are most worthy, loyal people, reside at Amboy Ills. They earnestly desire, (believing he will never again be fit for service) he may be discharged I have respectfully & earnestly to request that he may be examined for discharge. If not a proper subject for discharge that he may be transferred to US Hospital at Quincy where his friends can conveniently visit him.

Please indorse such action as may be found proper & return this letter Yrs Very Resply
