Dear friend
I thank you for your letter, and assure you that it was a great relief to me to be informed of your success. The more so because I shall take an active part in the approaching Presidential canvas and shall need all the means I can raise. I have found since I came here I have a great many friends who in case of a rupture between Lincoln + Chase would be for me for the Presidency. I have been making speeches to the Union clubs, and been better received than you would imagine. I go from here to Washington where I am to meet certain persons from Massachussetts & New Hampshire. I write this in confidence and hope you will not name it to any one as I do not expect to be the candidate but hope to be in a position where I will
be able to help my friends.
Should you think of any thing I can do for you at Washington let me know. If there is any position you would like to try for come to Washington immediately and I will see what I can do for you. I think I could get something from Stanton if we could fix upon it before hand.
Your friend Rich. Yates
P.S. I shall be at home in about two weeks. My wife and children are with me and enjoying themselves finaly. Wish Mrs. Taylor was with my wife.
I send you copy of this to Chicago, not knowing where to reach you.

Dear friend,
I thank you for your letter and assure you that it was a great relief to me to be informed of your success. The more so because I shall be deeply engaged in the approaching canvas. I have found since I came here this time I have a great many friends who in case of rupture between Lincoln + Chase would be for me for the Presidency. I have been to the union clubs, made speeches and been better received than you would imagine. I go from here to Washington where I aim to meet certain persons from Massachusetts + N. Hampshire. I write this in confidence and hope you will not name it to any one as I am no candidate and
only hope to be in a position where I can help my friends. Should you think of any thing I can do for you at Washington let me know. If there is any position you would like to try to get come to Washington immediately and I will see what I can do for you. I think I could get something from Stanton for you if we could fix upon it before hand.
Your friend
Rich. Yates
P.S. I shall be at home in about two weeks. My wife and children are with me and enjoying themselves much. Wish Mrs. T. was here to keep my wife company. They would enjoy themselves well.
I send you copy of this to Memphis, not knowing where to reach you.
