Dear Govinor.

Yours of the 14th inst has been received

Inclosed pleas find List of Promonant Union Men at the several Post Offices in Our County. I furnish the List with pleasure as I hope thereby You may be able to put in some assistance to help us Carry this County for the Union and the Right at Our Election next fall_ I feel it in My Bones that we are going to do that Thing by using the proper Industry_

We have commenced by starting a Loyal Paper in Our Town [illegible] now_ Things look Bright and I hope will so continue_

I was vary much pleased and flatered by the Reseption of Your Fotagraph _ and The [attention?] made to my personal appearance. And Shall comply with your Request at My earleyest conveniance _

My Daughter (Clarissa J _ ) to whom you was introduced when you was here in 1860 wishes me to present her compliments though you to Mrs Yates and Ask of her a Fotagrpah of heself for (Josie's Album)

I find that there is considerable Dissatisfaction in this part of the state in regard to the action of the central Committee _ or 5 or 6 of them who got together at Chicago on the 8th of Jan when it was impossible for this part of the state to be represented in consequence of the stopedge of Trains by the snow_ And Located the holding of the State Convention at Springfield _

I was not notefyed of the meeting until the 12th and the meeting was on the 8th _

I wrote to C. B. Cook chair man some six weeks ago on the subject but have heard nothing from him _ if convenient plans look into the matter a little_

I did have some notion of making some little effort for a place on the State Ticket_ but upon Reflection I presume it would hardly be worth my while to do so _ I have spent a [joint?] end of Time and Money in Trying to Build up first the Republican party and Then the Union _ and so far it has payed vary Slim_ Some times I Think that I had [anyght?] to have some positions_ which would pay [sompthing?] _ But I presume the Thing will come round all Right some Time _

I am fully aware of one Thing _ the Labour Which I have performed has been as hard and as Expensive As most of Those who are filling vary many good Positions - had it not been for your Kindness in my behalf on many occasions I should have thought [illegible] this. Republicans wore vary ungratefull.

With Much Respect

D.P. Gwenn
