I have the honor to inclose herewith a copy of a note of the 15th ultimo addressed

to this Department by Lord Lyons, who is instructed by Earl Russell to procure for the information

of the Colonial Office of Great Britain, copies of official Reports pertaining to the subject of Prisons on

secondary punishment in the State of Illinois. I will consequently thank your Excellency to cause to be

transmitted to this Department such matter relative to the subject referred to, as you may be enabled to

obtain.
