Golconda Illinois
October 18th 1861
Dear Sir
Altho not personally acquainted with your Excellency yet in the faith of a knowledge I presumed you would have of me as Clerk of the Circuit & County Courts of this county for many years and as the father of Green B. Raum I would take the liberty of recommending to your particular notice Dr Ambrose Dedrick and Dr Charles Kitzing both residents of this place, who are extremely anxious to enter the army in the surgical or medical department. They are both European Germans, have served in Germany as such, and have resided and practised in their profession here for the last eight or ten years. They are true and loyal to the Country, and professionally or otherwise would be well qualified to fill any station in the department refered to, would therefore earnestly recomend them to your consideration and would be pleased to hear from you on the subject.
Respectfully
your obt sevt
