Governor Yates, Dr Sir, The death of Owen Lovejoy calls up the question of his successor, and whether he ought to be elected immediately or the election deferred till November. I have taken pains to converse with many persons in this vicinity, and find many are decidedly for an immediate election. There are important interests confided to congressmen, by their administration, and we should feel the need of one. Our [distilling?] interest is particularly concerned. Besides there may be important constitutional amendments to be decided. [illegible] you will order an election at the earliest opportunity, possible. I am with great respect
