Gov. Yates, Springfield Ill, My Dear Sir
We recd yours of the 6. Inst in regard to organizeing a military Co. under the Militia law, and now have 100 good & true Men Enroled. they have not yet Elected their Officers - will in a few days.
"You Say the arms are there, & that you will try & get Genl. Hientzelman, to authorize them to be Sent to this Co.
In order to facilitate the business, we agree to become to become responsible for the arms, &c & see that they are accounted for according to law, or regulation.
You can send to us, and as soon as the arms are here the Military Co. that is now stationed here can leave We can then take care of ourselves.
But untill that is done It is bad
policy even to talk about removing the troops from this place The Cops [ore?] are becoming more & more bold as the Election approaches
Please let us hear from you at once, as to the result

Make note to Lieut Arnold for then arms to be sent to G. W. Rives & G. L. Spinks Get Crowell to send proper bonds & also some one to go with arms - Also with R. & S - when they will be shipped
and to be on hand to receive them at Depot
