29. Sept. 1864.
My Dear Sir.
I enclose you a slip that I cut from this morning's "world" and that has gone the round of Kindred journals, and perhaps may have reached you that Mr Osborn is going for "little Mac". I know that it is utterly and entirely false and that he would rather have his right hand cut off before he would swallow Pendleton and the Chicago Platform, I have myself heard him frequently tell friends of McClellan that it was

was utterly impossible for any man of common sense brought up and nurtured in the public schools of this country to help put such a worthless crew into power, He thinks that McClellan would be a mere tool to his old friends and classmates Beauregard, Gustavus W Smith, Simon Buckner and other distinguished rebel leaders within six months after reaching the Presidency granting that such a disastrous result was in any way possible, So we can nail this lie to the counter at once and I know that Mr Osborn only waits to make out the best way to answer this so as to have the most Effect and do the most good.
not to make my letter so long as to be tedious Can I do you any good here? If so the favor will be done me if you will
command me in any way that I can serve you, I would like to write you fully as to how matters are here but dislike to trouble you, and had hoped that you would be here, The Country will be all right for our Illinois Candidate sure
In Haste
very Truly And Sincerely Yours,
James T. Tucker.
