Circuit Clerk's Office,
Princeton, Bureau Co., Ill.,
Dec. 2. 1864
Gov. Yates; Dr Sir:
The young man H.S. Corwin of whom I spoke to you in Springfield, is a private in "Battery D. 1st. Light Arty. Vols. 3rd Div. 17th Army corps. He is at present at Nashville having been through all the Atlanta campaign. A clerkship would suit him, or any thing that would take him out of the Battery. A situation nearer home of coriche would be desirable; but anything that you might be able to do for him I would be very gratefully acknowledged. I was not mistaken as to the political status
of E.M. Haines, he was electioneering against you in this Town. Mr. Stacy is away from home on business but the day he went away, he remarked to me "that it was a foregone conclusion that Yates should be U.S. Senator." & that he could not see it in the line of his duty to oppose him.
Be assured Governor, that whatever I may be able to in this part of the state, in the right direction, shall be done.
Hastily but Truly Yours
Geo. M. Radcliffe
