Gov Yates

Lorenzo Wood Esq an old resident of this county, a man of Sterling north and Sound union principles desires the appointment of Public Administrator for this county in the place of one H B Fouke an extreme peace democrat and active partizan. A petition will be forward to you signed by our principle men in a few days. In reply to your kind letter on Subject of the U. S. Senatorship can only briefly say that Hon E B Washburn late in the day has entered the field and from local reasons will probably get the members of his district. At least so it appears at present. You see I am placed in a trying position and must paddle my canoe in the current. I regret the issue. I will explain more at length when I see you .

Yours very truly

J.S. [Camp?]

Camp J S

Dixon Dec 10/1864

Recommends & requests the appointment of Lorenzo Wood, a good man as Public Administrator for that county.

Understands that Washburn has received the support of the members in his District, at least it appears so.

He (Camp) is placed in a trying position at present & must paddle his cause in the current.
