Knoxville Decr. 18th A.D. 1864
To his Excellency Richard Yates
Dear Governor
A short time since I met our mutual friend Hon. Wm. P. Kellogg, I promised him to see J. M. Holyoke, our member in relation to the Election of a United States Senator. I have seen Mr. Holyoke and talked with him upon the subject freely. He did not give me any pledge neither did I ask him to do so, but you are now his 1st choice for that position and he is quite a warm friend of yours unless there should be some change in relation to the standing and position of the different gentlemen now named for the place I have no doubt but you will receive his warm and cheerful support. There are some here at work for Genl Palmer, as for myself, there are some reasons why I prefer you and if I can be of any service to you either at Springfield at the opening of the session or by correspondences with members with whom I am acquainted
and other persons, if you wish I will with pleasure do what I can for you.
Very Truly Yours
A. Tyler

At request of W P Kellogg he saw Holyoke & found him in your favor though would make no pledge. Thinks if he continues in present mind that he will vote for you. If there is anything he can do for you in any way let him know.
