Geneseo Henry Co Ill
Dec 21th 1864
Gov Yates
I have corresponded with Mr Ford, our representative upon the subject of the Senatorship, I find that he is anxious to do nothing against the wishes of his Constituency but is favorable to you
To day we have had quite a large gathering in my office, of the leading men of Geneseo, and several of the neighbouring towns, for the purpos of expressing our preferences as to the next U. S. Senator, and passed resolutions instructing Mr. Ford to go for you I have no doubt in my own mind that nine
tenths of the Union people of Henry County are for you and perhaps the majority is larger
You can count on Mr Ford with all Safety as he is a good man and will carry out what he undertakes to do; and his undertaking in this matter is the wishes of those who elected him to his present position
Very Truly
