Andalusia Ill Dec 26 1864 Solar Burroughs Esq Dr friend yours was received in due time. You may be assured that I am Gov Yates friend. There is not a man in the state that I would sooner see elected Senator. I have seen our Representative. I found him rather partial to Washburn on account of what he as done for this county. I set forth Gov Yates claim in the best light that I could for him. We acknowledge that Yates has a better claim
on the office than any other man in the state and we promise to go for him if he can do so without giving any offense to Washburn.
Seek his acquaintance and use your influence with him at Springfield and all will be right. If I was there I am sure I could get him to vote for Yates.
He is a plain rough and ready farmer - about as smart as the comon run of farmers and I believe strictly honest and conciencious But the influence of others can change his
mind or make him see things differently.
I hope you will get your charter through all right. You have my best wishes. If you desire it I may be able to help organize and start the machine.
Get that money out of Bryan before you go to Springfield if possible.
Yours, J T Blaney
We are talking of trying to get a Charter for a Rail Road from Camden to Muscatine. If we go into it I would be glad of all the help possible. JTB
