Chicago, Jan. 11. 1865
Hon. Richard Yates,
Springfield Ill.
Dear Sir:- You will remember me as having spent an afternoon in your room at the Fremont House, in writing out for publication a speech you had delivered the previous evening - of which I had taken a report. Then I was Local Editor of the Tribune, but I left it some months since
I understood a project is on foot for establishing a new Daily here, and that you can give me the particulars; hence I write for information on that point. If possible, I should be glad to be "counted in" on the editorial staff. Any information you can give me on the subject will be gladly received.
Accept my congratulations that the people have again shown their appreciation of you and that your hold upon the hearts of the people was too strong to be replaced by "the Tribune," even. Yours Truly
