Hon Richard Yates
Springfield Ills. My Dear Friend
I have delayed writing you Congratulating you on the success of your Election to the US late Senate presuming your time was so much taken up in receiving the Congratulations of your Friends & closing up your bussiness as Govenor I can assure you no election has taken place that has so pleased me as yours. you are now in a place where you have long deserved & I have no doubt you will fill it not only to the Satisfaction of yourself but your Friends I could not come up as you requested to aid you with my humble efferts but my best wishes were with you I believe I have nothing to ask of you politically, as I am no aspirant for any pessition whatever, many persons knowing me to be a warm personal & intimate Friend of yours may call upon me for letters which I shall likely give when I consider them worthy with my highest regard for your present & future welfare believe me your Sincer Friend
