I received Mr Bennetts Commission this AM, Commissioning him as Colonel of Illinois Vol. Mr Bennett has not yet returned. Am expecting him the 2nd of February. he will write you immediately on his return home. Allow me to congratulate you Govenor upon your success. You must not think for a moment that the people of Henry County was represented in that Caucus. No Sir. we was disgracefully sold out, but thank god there was enough without him and I can assure you that no one rejoices more than I do. with kind regards and many wishes for your future prosperity
