Brig Gen S. R. Curtis
St. Louis
Sir: I am informed that there are four or five companies of Illinois Volunteers in St. Louis who are not permanently attached to any Regiments. That they are dissatisfied with their condition and desire to return to Illinois and be attached to some of our incomplete Regiments.
If such be the case I suggest whether - the interest of the public service might not be promoted by [welcoming?] this to be done. I am now [expecting?] arms for a part
of our troops and am very anxious to fill up a few of our skeleton Regimets & can use these companies to good advantage.
I particularly refer to Captain [Tazens?] Company from Richland & Capten Campbells company from Edgar Co.
Respectfully Yours
