To his Excellency

The undersigned Officers of this garrison bear willing testimony to the character of Captn Wallace as a soldier, and gentleman, and to his ability as an Officer, and feel confident that an appointment conferred on him by your Excellency is well deserved.

Dear Sir
I can recommend Capt. Wallace as very well qualified to command a Regiment. His experience and his courage and ability can be made more useful at the Head of Regiment than in command of a company

Hon Richard Yates

Dear Sir
I take great pleasure in transmiting to you the accompanying paper.
Captain Wallace is a son of the late Genl Wallace of Indiana, and a brother of Genl Wallace of Paducah, and I warmly concur in recommending him to your favorable notice.
I trust you will take the first opportunity to place Capt Wallace in command of a Regiment.
