Camp Douglas, Chicago, Ills, December 9th 1861.
Headquarters, Chicago German Guides
Adjutant General A. Fuller,
Springfield, Ills.
Sir,
Capt. Weide, who has a Company of Cavalry in Missouri, is in Springfield at present for the purpose, to get permission from his Excellency the Governor of Illinois, to withdraw his Company from the Missouri Regiment, to which it is now attached, and join Lieut Cols Theo C. Hartmann's Battalion of Dragoons. In using Your influence, to assist him in getting the necessary documents, You would oblige both parties very much. At the same time You would
aid and further the interests of the service of the U. S. Army, because my Battalion would be filled to the maximum number instantly by Capt Weide's joining it.
I remain
with the highest respect
Your obedient servant.
