Hon. R. Yates.
Dear Friend
My Brother Dr J C Macon married some years since a Widow lady in Richmond Virginia. She deceased about three years since leaving two children by her first Husband (who are minors), they are the legatee's of a large amount of valuable property in the City of Richmond, which there is danger of their losing by the Rebel act of Confiscation, Bro wishes to carry them back to prevent such a contingency, and is at a loss to know how to accomplish the object.
It is for this purpose that I now write you asking the favor of a pass to the Potomack at Hopkins Ferry. I know that every movement of your time must be occupied with the weighty responsibilities of your position, at this trying period in our Counties history - and therefore it is with great delicacy that I
make this request, But if you can consistently favor me in this respect, you will add another favor to the many already bestowed, I am sincerely glad to here of your recovery from the attack of illness which you have lately been afflicted with & trust that the future will be all prosperty & happiness.
I am your Friend
