The monument dedicated to Mary Ann Rutledge in Bethel Cemetery in Van Buren County, Iowa, stands among tall grasses. 
On verso: "Tall shaft is grave of mother of Ann Rutledge (Lincoln's sweetheart). Located in Bethel Cemetery, 3 miles NW of Birmingham, Van Buren county, Iowa. Shaft bears following inscription: Mary Ann, wife of Jas. Rutledge died Dec. 26, 1878 aged 91 yrs. 2 mos. 5 ds. Below inscription is the following: Oh, Mother dear, a short farewell; That we may meet again above; And rove where angels love to dwell; Where trees of life bear fruits of love."
