My Dear Friend
I wrote you some time in November directed to Jacksonville as I have not heard from you I presume you did not get my letter, I wanted to know something regarding [Marlin's?] appointment to a situation at West-Point. I of course would rather be indebted to some of our Whig members from Illinois then to the government, but my husband has written to Mr. President and we [received?] an official report that his name would be remembered or [presented?] to the President at the time to make the appointment, but that does not imply any certainty. I should be sorry if he is dissapointed as he has set his heart on getting the appointment this year
he is prepared to enter College if he should not get the appointment this year I think he will determine to go to some other place to complete his education.
We have had a sad time here dear Molly has been very very ill so much so that her life was dispaired of but she is now apparently in a fair way of recovery. she is very weak and naturally so delicate that her life seems to hang upon a thread but I trust that a kind Providence will restore her to health, she is a very precious child this world would be dark to me indeed without her she has been my companion and solace in so many [illegible] we have had much kindness shown us particularly by the young people, she was some time that she could neither take medicine or nourishment we could only sit by her day and night and bathe and feed her with [illegible]
I wrote to Mr. Brown some time since withed to sell what land I had in Illinois. I shall go there in April as the boys have a vacation at that time.
I think it would be a good plan to advertise the farm for sale this winter I shall write to Mr. Brown on the subject. I believe he is in the Legislature this winter.
Do write soon and give us all the news is Mrs. Yates with you this winter who is in the City? I am a stronger Whig than ever, I hope they do not [submit?].
Yours Respectfully
