Honl Richard Yates Governor of the State of Illinois
Dear Sir
I have much pleasure in introducing Doctor Richard U Nelson of this place, who is verry anxious to be appointed a Surgeon in the Army.
From Letters of Introduction which were sent me (before he came here to reside) from a person in whose judgement I had great confidence, as well as from the character he bears as a Physician and Surgeon in this place, I have every reason to believe that his appointment would be a good one, for the well, as well as the sick Soldier -
He has had charge of Captain Bloomfields Co. in Col Shepherds Regt since its formation and I hear the men are well pleased with the attention
and care he has given them and that they express a hope he may accompany them.
I hope it may be in your power to accommodate the Doctor, and oblige very respectfully yours.
K H Fell
Dear Govr I cheerfully join My Brother in recommending the Doctor to your favorable attention. I think in has hands the interests of the Soldier would be properly looked after - a thing that is far often overlooked.
