PATRIOTIC OCCASIONS
In August, 1915, officials of a patriotic society of Washington, D.C. suggested to Mr. Chenery that the time seemed opportune for the writing of a great pageant upon national history that would develop respect and reverence for the Flag and love for the Fatherland. At their request he visited Washington and after consultation as to the general lines for such a tremendous undertaking spent many weeks in the great libraries and art galleries of the East gathering material for the story and music. While at the home of Betsy Ross where the Flag was first approved, at Fort McHenry where the "Star Spangled Banner" was written and at Mt. Vernon the words of the anthem "Flag Ever Glorious" were evolved.

2 Valiant Boys of the Army NOTE: While witnessing a review of the New Jersey state troops at their Sea Girt encampment prior to their departure for the Mexican frontier the insistent beat and roll of the drums suggested to Mr. Chenery the writing of a "Drum Song." A few days later, Aug. 29, 1916 enroute to his home in Springfield, Illinois on a Pennsylvania train between Washington and Chicago a page was torn from a writing tablet and the words and music of the following song were written. Solo or First Verse - Men in unison Second Verse - Women in unison Third Verse - Full chorus in unison
