Camp at Lafayette,
Feb. 12th 1862
To his Excellency Governor Yates,
Sir I take the liberty to address you in my behalf, knowing that the Government is about to arm and equip Negros. I tender my Services to the Government asking for a position knowing no one to address but you and knowing you to be a true patriot, and lover of liberty I have always stood by you and Shall continue to do so for I know you are a true patriot. I abhor the Legislature that is trying to take the power from you that is lawfully invested in you by the Constitution. Please Sir to assist me all you can a favor which you will not regret. Please Sir to annnser.
