Dear Sir, Our friend & fellow citizen Horace Bancroft Esq. is desirous to be appointed on of the Assessors & Collectors of U.S. Taxes about to be levied. He is unquestionably well qualified by his integrity, orderly qualities, & commercial experience-and desiring his success, we hope his application will be in time and respectfully ask you to promote it.

Dr Sir I hope I am not asking too much of your time in requesting you to inform me (if you know) who will probably have the appointing of the Deputy in the county of the state.
I am anxious to obtain the above information knowing that an application amounts to but little unless prudently and faithfully followed up.
