If Col C. C. Marsh is made Brig Genl there will be two vacancys his Lieut Col Erwin haveing been killed at Donaldson

I ask of you the appointment of Col W.W. Mitchell & myself to fill the places. We were the first in the field and hope we have done our duty

Maj. R. B. Hatch

Springfield Mar 7

Applying for Col & Lt Col for himself & W W Mitchell in Marsh's regt.

Write him that it is now almost impossible to introduce into a Regt. a new officer that is one not in the Regt.

If they would petition for you it would be different.
