Hon Richard Yates, Governor of the State of Ill.
Dear Sir
Perceiving from your address to the people of the State with regard to the wounded & dead of the Fort Donelson battle, & your instructions to the Agents appointed by you to send them to their homes... I wish to enquire if there is any Agent, for this purpose at St. Louis... My son Henry S. Weston, Com. B. 17th Reg. Ill. Vol. wounded at Donelson, died of his
wounds at St. Louis...& if there is an Agent there who would send his remains to Henry, Marshall County Ill. it would save me much trouble & expense, which I can ill afford in these times, & would I trust be carrying out your patriotic intentions. If this letter should obtain a reply, please direct as above to Henry which is my place of residence.
Respectfully
Eben Weston
