Dear Genl

I write to tell you that the moment I got home, I gave the order for promotion of Schwartz & Stewart, and that Commissions were forwarded immediately, very sorry to learn through Col Dunlap you had not recd. them. Have tired to carry out all your requests as near as might be. Don't you know of some place for Lieut H. C. Freeman, to which I might appoint him? Regiment. If you can find a vacancy where it would be at all agreeable to have him go I shall be happy on his account and also on your's especially to appoint him.

I believe it will afford you pleasure to know that I have triumphed gloriously over the Convention. They confess to being whipped out in all their assaults against me.

Genl I thought I could see a little feeling among certain ones of your own party not to give you full credit for your great services, but rest assured that the masses of the democratic party and all the Republicans rank and file have the warmest feelings for you. The conspicuous and pre-eminent service you rendered at Fort Donelson is well understood, and highly appreciated. Let me assure you that I miss no occasion to do you justice; and that it affords me pleasure to do it.

Your friend

Richd Yates.
