Col Cavanaugh of the 6th I understand has resigned. Some of the officers of this regiment with whom I am acquainted have requested me to take command of it. If you desire to make me the promotion to this regiment I would accept it for I feel perfectly competent to handle any cavalry Regiment.

Write him that nearly every officer petitioned & nearly whole Regt desires Grierson whom I know to be competent & prevented my appointing Hogg, which I tried at Paducah to consented to. Will try & provide for him some way soon.
