Sir I have been in the servis since the first of August 1861 I went into the state of Mo. because that I could not get in to the servis from the State of Ill. I was to see you at Springfield about Capt. Tipton's Company in Col. Nabbes Reg. but getting no satisfaction went in to another Reg. I have been born and raised in the State of Ill. I will refer you to Judge Gillespie Medcalf at Edwardsville as many man or men in Madision or Bond Counties or to any of the officers of the 37th Ill. Vol. or any of the officers that I have been with since I have been in the servis [illegible] Curtis Pope Davis or Hunter And have one of the finest battallions in the servis now but would prefer belonging to an Ill. Reg. would like Cavalry. If there is any position that is vacant and you see proper I would like to have a chance and would ever be thankful for the favor and would as the for to maintain the credit of the State of Ill.
