Gov Yates:
Dear Sir: I write at the request of Lieut G. W. P. Ebey of Co C 28th Ill. Writes a very earnest letter requesting me to advise you he is very unpleasantly situated in said Company; that he cannot get along under his Capt. John H. Brown; that the men have no confidence in him, that he lacks courage manhood, courtesy and every soldierly quality - that he has tried to relieve himself by resignation & every way in vain, and begs me to appeal to you in his behalf, which I cheerfully do. Lt Ebey is every whit a man and a soldier; he was in service in Washington Territory several months, and commanded on the field of Shiloh in the absence of his captain
in which battle he was severely wounded, and he is anxious to get a staff position or some other command or position, which will relieve him. He is well qualified for almost any position & I hope Mr Ebey may be gratified A Major's place would suit him well & he could fill it well.
His father will hand you this with whom you can talk more fully.
